Master Joiner Awards - Winner 2026

Bespoke timber windows designed and made by Cedarlite's experienced Master Joiners in Auckland

Beautiful timber windows bring warmth and character to a new build, complement the craftsmanship of a high-end renovation or new build, or allow the original detail of a heritage building to be faithfully recreated. Timber is a natural insulator, it has exceptional design flexibility from traditional profiles and unusual shapes to clean contemporary windows. With the right timber, glazing, hardware and finish, it offers an ideal combination of beauty, performance and longevity.
Cedarlite designs and manufactures bespoke timber windows for homeowners, architects and builders, from a single replacement window through to complete joinery packages for residential and commercial projects. Based in Auckland, we work on projects throughout New Zealand and welcome international enquiries.
The earlier we can be involved, the better. Talk to us while your project is still taking shape and we can work with you, your architect or builder to refine the details, resolve any complex joinery requirements and plan manufacture around your wider project programme.

Custom timber windows for architectural new builds

When the architecture calls for something beyond standard window joinery, that's where our team comes into its own. We work with architects, builders and homeowners to manufacture timber windows specifically for the building, taking into account the design, dimensions, glazing requirements, location and performance required of the finished joinery.
From contemporary architectural homes to substantial commercial projects, we can manufacture individual statement windows or a complete suite of timber windows and doors, with profiles, timber, glazing and hardware selected to work together throughout the building.
If the plans involve oversized, unusually shaped or technically challenging windows, talk to us early. Our experienced joiners can work alongside your architect and builder to turn the design into beautifully made, practical joinery.

Heritage timber windows – keeping the character

Cedarlite has extensive experience manufacturing timber windows for heritage and character properties including villas and bungalows. We can match existing profiles and mouldings and faithfully replicate original joinery for homes as well as heritage and older commercial buildings.
Where existing windows are suitable for refurbishment, we can also refurbish the joinery rather than replace it. We don't offer general on-site window repairs, but we can manufacture replacement components or complete new windows where existing joinery is beyond refurbishment.
This allows the character of an older building to be retained while incorporating modern glazing, hardware and thermal performance where appropriate.

Timber from responsibly managed forests

Sustainability is important. The timber we source is PEFC and FSC certified, providing assurance that it comes from responsibly managed forests where environmental, social and economic sustainability is considered.

Modern glazing for beautifully made timber windows

The glass you choose can have a significant effect on how your windows – and your building – perform. Cedarlite can manufacture timber windows with standard or high-performance double glazing, Low-E energy-efficient glass, toughened and laminated safety glass, obscure and privacy glass, tinted glass, acoustic glazing and decorative or heritage-style glass. We can also incorporate traditional or applied glazing bars with double-glazed units, allowing us to retain a more traditional appearance without giving up the benefits of modern glazing.
We commonly use high-performance Low-E options including Low-E Xcel and Low-E Extreme where appropriate. The right specification will depend on factors such as thermal performance, solar gain, external noise, privacy, safety and the size and position of the window.
We can work with you, your architect or builder to determine an appropriate solution, taking New Zealand Building Code and safety-glazing requirements into account.

Thermawood – it's what happens around the glass that matters

Cedarlite exclusively uses the Thermawood glazing system for our new double-glazed timber windows and doors and for suitable retrofit double-glazing projects. Thermawood is a purpose-designed dry-glazing system for timber joinery. Rather than relying on simply sealing moisture out, the system is designed so that any moisture entering the glazing rebate has a way to drain away from the insulated glass unit.
The glazing platform incorporates a slight drainage slope beneath the double-glazed unit and drainage slots that allow moisture to escape to the exterior. This helps prevent water sitting around the glass, timber and edge of the insulated glass unit – areas where trapped moisture can cause problems over time.
One of the reasons we value the Thermawood system is its versatility. It can be incorporated into contemporary architectural joinery as well as traditional and heritage-style windows without compromising the clean appearance of the timber. It can also accommodate different insulated glass specifications including Low-E, safety, privacy and acoustic glass.
Using the same proven glazing approach for both our new joinery and retrofit double glazing allows us to combine the natural insulating qualities of timber with the performance expected from modern double glazing. More detailed technical information about the Thermawood system and our glazing options is available in our Resources section.

Hardware selected for the specific window

Quality hardware is an important part of how a window operates and performs over time. We use established manufacturers including Brio and Henderson, along with other leading window and door hardware suppliers.
Depending on the window, options can include window stays and restrictors, lockable handles, multipoint locking, security stays and ventilation positions, heavy-duty sliding and folding systems, and concealed or architectural hardware in a range of finishes.
Hardware is selected to suit the size, weight, configuration and location of the joinery. For exposed coastal properties, we can specify suitable corrosion-resistant hardware. For particularly large, heavy or unusual windows, it's worth discussing hardware early in the design process so the operating system can be considered as part of the window.

Keep the bugs out with insect screens

Want the fresh air without the insects? Retractable insect screens can be discreetly incorporated into new timber window and door systems.
We offer Centor retractable insect screens, which allow you to open up your windows for ventilation while helping keep insects outside. When they're not needed, the screens retract neatly away.
If you would like insect screens, let us know at the beginning of the project. The screen, tracks, window joinery and opening configuration all need to work together, so they're much easier to integrate beautifully when they're considered as part of the original design.
